BULK DRY PIGMENTS - Our bulk Pigments (also known as fresco powders) have a variety of uses in finishing. They are extremely fine and disperse well in any medium. Can be added to varnish, lacquer, shellac and other finishes for tinting purposes. Use with heavy bodied glazing stain to make custom glazes to impart depth and richness to the finish. May also be added to glues for repair work as well as to color paste-wood fillers and waxes. The use of pigments allows the finisher the versatility of matching any color or modifying stock colors for custom color matching. Pigments are sold by volume, not weight. Carbopol Ultrez 21 Carbopol is used extensively in conservation applications to make cleaning gels. We use it to make custom gel stains from TransTint. See the above link for a TDS. It’s very easy to use. The typical method for making a water gel is to dissolve 1-2% EZ-3 in water and then neutralize (gelled) by addition of small amounts of ammonia, sodium hydroxide or sodium carbonate until the desired consistency is achieved. The TDS above gives more information on various neutralizing techniques. Orasol Ciba® Orasol® Dyes are metal complex dyes used by many manufacturers to make NGR stains. They are very soluble in a wide variety of organic solvents including alcohols, ketones, esters and glycol ethers. Unlike many metal complex dyes, they are very bright and vivid. We
originally made these pigment concentrates for some large industrial
manufacturers that have fell on hard times, so now we are offering these to our
customers. Made with special micronized pigments, these colors can be easily
added to any shellac and lacquer thinner based lacquer product (nitrocellulose,
pre-cats, conversion). Or just reduce them with denatured alcohol or lacquer
thinner for a fast dry stain. Available in 8 oz size, these colors are handy
when you need to tint small amounts of product. Also can be used for touch-ups. Product disperses
quickly and makes great transparent toners or opaque colors, depending on amount
used.
